The renowned and state approved health resort Bischofsmais with its approx. 3,200 inhabitants is found in the lower Bavarian region of Regen in the middle of the natural park of the Bavarian Forest. The town was formerly dominated by agriculture. With its unique forest landscapes and hills, the area is known today for its large selection of ski and toboggan runs, an extensive cross-country network and diverse hiking trails. The many beautiful mountains invite you to spend lots of time in the outdoors. In addition to numerous athletic activities, the resort also offers tranquility and relaxation away from all the stress. Further, the healthy climate and clean air let you find new strength. Those who are interested in culture and tradition can indulge in the regional arts and history.
SkiApprox. 5 km from Bischofsmais, the ski area "Geißkopf" offers skiing fun on a manageably-sized yet splendid area with 7.5 km of pistes. Both beginners and experienced skiers alike will find what they are looking for. Even the pros will have loads of fun on the broad slopes. The little ones can practice their first swings on the children's area "Geissleinpark". That's why families love that ski area so much. For snowboarders and free riders there is a fun park with various jumps and kickers, etc. Especially exciting are the flood-lit runs which offer fun on the pistes after dark. 85 % of the pistes can be covered with snow and ensure good piste conditions. (The total region provides further ski areas, such as the approx. 30 km distant ski area "Großer Arber". This offers approx. 10 km of additional descents of all levels of difficulty, and even a world cup run! Due to high investments for the lift and snow making systems, the ski area has been greatly modernised in the past few years and therefore caters to skiers, ensuring good snow conditions right up into spring.
Let the day come to an end in one of the many pubs and bars where the proprietors are waiting to spoil you with their local specialties. Whether you’re craving a regional delicacy or international cuisine, there really is something for everyone! A fresh draught beer should not be missed. Besides you can let the day wind out by taking part in various outdoor activities, e.g. winter hiking at the Nordic Walking or tobogganing on the 2 km long toboggan run. Those who like to party can shake a leg in the 10 km distant resort Regen in the disco Papilio until the early morning hours. More entertainment can be found in the larger cities of the region, such as Straubing or Passau. There you can choose from a large selection of discos and bars, which offer a good mixture of music styles and promise entertainment for hours and hours.
The area around Bischofsmais offers pure fun for all fans of the Nordic style. Around Bischofsmais you will find a 86.5 long cross-country network, whereof 5 km are suitable for skating trails. The cross-country network leads along a beautiful nature. Here, beginners and experts can both explore a wonderful area. 38.5 km of difficult cross-country trails are available to the experts of the cross-country skiers, who demand everything of someone and require experience. The 30.5 km of easy cross-country trails are especially suitable for beginners and the advanced cross-country skiers can let of steam on the 17.5 km trails.
