About Bottrop - presentation, information, photos and recommendations
Bottrop in summer
This is the place to bring your children - the big wheel is a firm favourite with younger visitors. The château Schloss Beck in Kirchhellen-Feldhausen is amongst one of the few remaining buildings designed by Johann Conrad Schlaun, one of the most famous architects of the late baroque period. Today the gem of the Ruhr chateaux accommodates a fairy tale castle and is surrounded by a leisure park which includes a big wheel, go-carts and water rides, a zoo for children, a railway, slides, trampolines, a cable slide and play areas. Also at Haus Beck there are places were you can eat. The Kirchheller heath is particularly appealing as a place to relax and unwind, with around 100 kilometres of marked cycle paths and footpaths and its streams and lakes, such as the Heidesee and the Heidhofsee. With barbecues, shelters, and a 35 metre high viewing platform, as well as play areas and rest areas, a wide variety of interests are catered for. A picnic at the forest station and the "Heidhof" holiday centre or long walks around one of the lakes - all of these guarantee rest and relaxation.
Bottrop in winter
In Bottrop a superlative wintersportcentre has been built on a slag-heap. Since the opening on 7th January 2001 the „Alpine Centre at the tetrahedron“ has been very popular. Both wintersport newcomers and more experienced ski and snowboard-fans use the 640 meter long and 30 meter wide piste, by far the longest in the world and open 365 days of the year. A skischool, ski hire and service complete the facilities. Ski and Snowboard teachers posses the necessary qualifications or have successfully completed in house training courses. Courses are especially designed for the conditions in the hall, and are aimed to bring these fascinating wintersports to the participants in a quick and entertaining fashion. Location
Strangers cannot imagine: more than half of the urban area of Bottrop is indeed, green, in the face of history influenced by the mining industries. Bottrop has always retained its „green side". The Köllnische Wald, the vast heath-land of the Kirchheller Heide and the public parks close to the centre form a major part of the cityshape.
