About Schonau am Konigssee - presentation, information, photos and recommendations
Schönau - idyll at Königssee!
Schönau (630 m) is located at the edge of the Berchtesgaden National Park, the most south-eastern community in Germany. The peaks of the Hohe Göll, the Hagen Mountains and Steinernen Meerauf form a stony border to the east and south – the common border with neighbouring Salzburger Land. The excellent location, directly on the idyllic Königssee, offers you the opportunity to take both daytime and moonlit boat tours. Additionally, you can only reach the St. Bartholomew pilgrimage church, which is situated in the heart of the Berchtesgaden nature preserve, by boat. Only a few kilometres away is the Jenner ski area, and Schönau, located near Berchtesgaden, is an ideal destination for a great winter holiday. Whether beginner or expert, everyone will find just the right piste!
Especially beginners benefit from our offers in Ramsau: Here you have the option to book our "Learn to Ski"-package. It comprises a 3 days (12 h) ski course and a BASICS Ski Complete Set equipment hire for 6 days for an additional charge of altogether only £86.50! The perfect start into winter sports fun - and you can choose between 6 ski areas to practise in.
SkiThe "Region Berchtesgaden" offers its guests six ski areas, which are combined in the same lift pass: around 50 kilometres of piste between 470 m and 1,800 m, and approx. 23 lifts can be used to your heart's desire.
Experts prefer the Jenner peak station at 1,800 m, where not only great steep pistes can be found, but also fantastic deep snow and free ride opportunities. The Jenner ski area is located only 1 km from Schönau, and easy to reach. The cosy pistes at Hochschwarzeck are ideal for families. Floodlight fans can enjoy the evening hours at Obersalzberg, Götschen and Rossfeld! The 6 km long valley run from Rossfeld to Oberau is quite leisurely and perfect for beginners (only accessible with adequate snow conditions).
The boarder scene people meet at Götschen, where you will find a boarder park with a 120 m long half-pipe. This ski area enjoys an international reputation due to its world cup runs, and as a popular host for winter sports championships in the luge, bobsledding and snowboarding! The ski area Zinken allows you to ski in neighbouring Austria. The lift pass "Region Berchtesgaden" also includes the use of the local ski buses which connect all 6 ski areas with each other and it covers the toll fee to the ski area Rossfeld. With the lift pass you can access one ski area per day.
Not all apres ski is the same! Along those lines, Berchtesgaden offers just the right thing for everyone: social evenings in a ski lodge are available, as are romantic evenings for two on a horse-sleigh ride. You can party in the bars or let yourself be spoilt with excellent cuisine in local restaurants.
Additionally, numerous activities such as winter hikes, torch hikes and guided trips through the wonderful landscape around the Watzmann are available. Relaxation seekers can enjoy the Berchtesgaden radon galleries and sauna.
Schönau offers its guests a multitude of off-piste activities: from spa and bathing fun in the indoor pool to kite flying or tobogganing to the numerous activities on Königssee, there is something for everyone! Moreover, Schönau is an ideal starting point for mountain tours on the Watzmann, the Reiteralpe, the Untersberg or into the Latten Mountains.
The cross-country trails in Berchtesgadener Land is quite comprehensive. A total of 100 km of track are available in the region and cover various skill levels. Also quite impressive is the Scharitzkehl high-altitude track below the Hohe Göll Massif - it runs over 5.1 km at 1,000 m to Obersalzberg. A further high-altitude track runs between Hochschwarzeck and Ramsau at 1,100 m.
The trails at Königssee are also gorgeous. The longest trail is located between Aschauerweiher and Bischofswiesen - it is intermediate and approx. 19.2 km long. If you prefer skating style, you can make your tracks in the snow on the 15 total km of extra prepared trails.
