In 1263, Sindelfingen was founded by Count Rudolf von Tübingen, close to the Martin monastery and church, which celebrates 750 years of birth in 2013 with several events. Sindelfingen began to develop in the 19th century, with a significant growth in the auto industry in the second half of the 20th century. Sindelfingen is characterized as an industrial city with a large Mercedes-Benz production plant that dominates large parts of the city. Sindelfingen with approximately 60,000 inhabitants offers a historic city center, with Martinskirche and Altes Rathaus, as well as modern shopping areas and excellent sports facilities. St. Martin's church dates from the 11th century, while the old Rathaus (town hall) is now the municipal museum. Other sites in Altstadt (Old Town) include the unique statue of Schwätzweiber (gossiping women) and Fachwerkhäusern (half-timbered houses).
