St. Englmar - winter magic in the Bavarian Forest!
The state-recognised spa resort St. Englmar is situated at an altitude of 808 m and is known as the centre of winter sports in the Bavarian Forest. The idyllic village is located on a southern slope of a mountain range in the Bavarian Forest and offers ideal conditions for skiing, winter hiking, tobogganing or horse-drawn sleigh rides. Here you will find both an entertaining and eventful holiday, as well as all sorts of relaxation and fun in a beautiful natural setting. The Arber, the Bavarian Forest's highest mountain at 1,456 m, became well-known due to the international ski world cup. The local mountains Predigtstuhl, Pröller and Hirschenstein also offer great winter sports opportunities.
SkiThe ski area St. Engelmar offers winter sports fans lovely skiing regions, such as the Grün-Maibrunn, Pröller-Ski-Dreieck, Predigtstuhl and the Kapellenberg ski areas. A total of 12 km of well-prepared pistes and 13 lifts offer a neat but good selection.
Modern snow-making systems ensure good snow conditions right up into March. In the Pröller ski triangle you will find ideal slopes and racing runs. But also wallowers will find themselves catered for. In the evenings some flood-lit pistes are opened.
In the ski area Predigstuhl boarders will find much to their taste in the fun park, which is actually Germany's largest fun park with flood lights and sound.
If you want to end the skiing day quietly with a good meal, you will find some lovely restaurants and rustic lodges offering excellent food and refreshment.
In the snow bars, pubs and discos you can party and dance till the early morning hours. In addition to skiing or snowboarding, there are many opportunities to enjoy the winter magic of the Bavarian Forest in St. Engelmar and its surroundings.
You can hike through an impressive landscape on a total of 50 km of cleared winter hiking trails, and tobogganing slopes, some of witch are lit up evenings, ensure tons of fun for young and old. Or, take a romantic horse-drawn sleigh ride. The selection of leisure activities is huge!
St. Englmar also has quite a bit to offer cross-country ski fans. The perfectly prepared trail network consists of over 100 km and offers stretches for each skill level. Trails for both classic and skating style are available.
The DSV nordic activ cross-country Centre St. Englmar-Hirschenstein offers a German club certified track network of 74 km, between 750 and 1500 m high. The Hirschenstein track is the longest, with its 15 km. The circuit is worthwhile and rewards you with a fantastic view of the Danube plain and the Bavarian Forest.
