Stuttgart is the capital of the German Land Baden-Württemberg. With over 590,000 inhabitants, is the largest provincial city. Germany is the sixth city in size, and "Region Stuttgart" is the fourth conurbation in the country. It is divided into 23 districts (Bad Cannstatt, Möhringen, Stammheim, Feuerbach, etc..). Stuttgart is to say Schwabenmetropole (metropolis Swabians), a reference to the Swabian dialect spoken by the locals. In this dialect, the name is pronounced Schturget or Schtuagerd city.
Located in the heart of southwestern Stuttgart region, near the Black Forest Mountains, from which it springs, along the Danube and the Neckar River, which traverses the city. Stuttgart metropolitan region (the entity called the Stuttgart region, consisting of cities Tübingen, Reutlingen, Heilbronn and their surroundings) is one of the most famous cities in Germany, especially because of its economic, cultural and administrative.
The first known settlement of Stuttgart dates from the late first century with the establishment here of a Roman fort in modern district Cannstatt Neckar River. Although nothing is known about Cannstatt, barbarian invasions during the period it is believed that the area remained inhabited as mentioned in the archives Abbey St. Gall, dating from 700 AD Old castle dating from 950, was probably founded around the year 950 AD before the Battle of Lechfeld Liudolf led by Duke of Swabia, a son of Holy Roman Emperor Otto I the Great.
In the past, wealth was displayed differently by the wealthy and powerful, as demonstrated by the Altes Schloss (Old Palace) of Schillerplatz, dating from the 16th century. Opposite is the Neues Schloss (New Palace, 1746-1807), which houses the Ministry of Culture and Finance.
