Leipzig is a city in eastern Germany. It is the largest city and one of the six major centers of Saxony.
The name comes from the glory of the city, in the forms Lipski, Lipsko and means "place of lime." In Romanian the city's old name was "Leipzig" and residents were called "Lipscani. Bucharest Street Lipscani so called because they used the Leipzig merchants
to sell goods on the street.
In the 17th century, Leipzig was one of the most important European centers of culture and education in areas such as music, astronomy and optics. After World War II, Leipzig has become an important urban center of Communist Germany.
